My Favorite Gigs

These are a few of my favorite gigs:

Sweet Revival: A tribute to the 1970’s fusion pioneers, The Jazz Crusaders. Mark Ferguson lifted the tunes, formed the band and played trombone and keys, René Lavoie played tenor sax, Ken Seeley on bass, Peter Beaudoin on drums and yours truly on electric guitar.

Johnny Vegas: Johnny is one of Ottawa’s best known entertainers. I’ve performed a lot with him, still do occasionally, and wrote some of the charts in his book. His 20 year run on Wednesday night at Maxwell’s is legendary around these parts. I could tell you some stories. Learn more about Johnny Vegas.

The Jazz Pollcats: I played with clarinetist Scott Poll [with Tom Denison on bass] around the turn of the century for 3 or 4 years, 1940’s style swing in the spirits of Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. A really fun trio, Scott and Tom are both wonderful players. I played on Scott’s album, “Swingin’ Not Stirred”, with Tom and drummer Glenn Robb. Here’s a track from the album, Besamé  Mucho.

Task Force Afghanistan Show Tour 2010: Joined Band of Brothers for a 2 week tour of bases in Kandahar and Kabul entertaining the troops. We backed 3 outstanding singers, most notably Dilana. A runner-up on “Rock Star Supernova” [Global in Canada and CBS in the U.S.], she may be the best rock singer I’ve ever played with. Dilana performs “Roxanne” with Band of Brothers at Kandahar Air Field.

Paname: Storyteller/accordionist Michel Normandeau holds a place in the history of the music of Quebec. As a founding member of Harmonium, Michel was part of the cultural revolution in Quebec during the early 1970’s. In 2011 Michel wrote and produced “Mademoiselle de Paris”, a theatre show based on his grandfather’s experiences in Paris in the 1950’s. We recorded a soundtrack of popular Parisian songs for the show. Listen to Paname: Veronique Turcotte, violin and vocal, Michel Normandeau- accordion, Daniel Berriault-bass, Peter Foret-acoustic guitar.

Annual “Make A Wish Gala” with Michael Pytura: Once a year singer Michael Pytura assembles his all-star band to perform at the Make-A-Wish Gala for Eastern Ontario. 2015 will be my 3rd year performing with this great band, led by Mike Mullin. In its first four years Michael and the band have helped raise over $60,000, which goes towards granting wishes to local kids who are critically ill.
